Method

Step by step instructions

  • Wash 1 cup toor dal thoroughly under running water.
  • Add dal to a pressure cooker with 3 cups water, 1/2 tsp turmeric, and salt.
  • Cook for 3–4 whistles until soft and mash lightly.
  • Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pan on medium flame.
  • Add 1 tsp cumin seeds and let them crackle.
  • Add a pinch of Okhliwali Hing and stir for 2–3 seconds.
  • Add chopped garlic and sauté until light golden.
  • Add chopped onion and cook until translucent.
  • Add chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, and cook until oil separates.
  • Pour this tadka over cooked dal and mix well.
  • Simmer for 2–3 minutes and serve hot.
